Spotting opportunities could be put into practice in a shopping centre, to observe the possible customers' behaviours, trying to understand what attracts people's attention (adverts, lights, sounds...).
School should promote this kind of competence, encouraging the change of perspective, as the video suggests, that is to say helping the students "see" others' points of view. The cat example could work; I also thought about another experiment: the student turns into a teacher, in a roleplay, and tries to understand the problems of the class and to find out solutions.

Literature in general allows you to see the things in a different way, discovering the thoughts of various authors sometimes far in space and time. You can plan an activity in which you ask the student to think how that character (historical or not) should act or think.
Obviously with history and geography we have to work on the valorisation of the territory in which the school is. We can go on the places, asking students what they would do for getting them better.
Also cooperative learning force students to work together for reaching a common goal. A good idea should be to insert creativity criteria into the evaluation grid. So they will be more motivated in thinking differently.

Probably a solution it would be the "Simulated Enterprise" that is provided for by law but is often too difficult to achieve for schools. In my school the person who deals with combined school / work activities is a teacher of ancient Greek who has only and ever worked in school.

Furthermore my students are involved in a project based learning activity in which they simulate an cooperative enterprise, that creates touch books for blind children. The experience includes: 2 communication laboratories (person-centered approach by C. Rogers); 1 not violence laboratory; 1 fairy tale laboratory for exploring themselves; 1 art studio with mud masks, 1 studio to produce touch books for blind children, 1 musical studio inspired to the method Orff etc. There were approximately 10 laboratories for 130 students (third year Human Sciences Liceo). The activities have involved the students for 30 hours. The project-purpose consists of creating a entrepreneurial attitude and a creative learning climate.

The teacher should perceive the classroom as a "discussion room" where the diversity of opinions, responses and solutions are promoted. In moments of evaluation, I value both the solution and the way to get there, and I consider error and failure as important parts of the learning process. I try to promote active, collaborative, student-centered learning environments where transversal competencies such as teamwork, critical thinking, communication skills, leadership, autonomy, project management, time management, strategic thinking and creativity are valued.

I think we have to be good examples for the students. We should be creative, flexible and spotting opportunities. If we don´t do that, the students won´t see the opportunities either. In my school we always look outside the schoolbuilding, what´s important for real (sounds better in Swedish). If it´s important with valuemaking for others or a real problem to solve in collaboration and with a real receiver of the result, the motivation is increasing!
One example from my school: we learn about health in different perspectives; science and civics, languages and physical training et cetera.
Then the students find a problem in health in the community or in Sweden to solve. Some of them went to primary schools talking about sugar, some of them went to preeschool to show games and exercises to improve the physical health amongst children others went to younger students to talk about bullying and the effects of that etc etc. Engaging, motivating and a great result. Valuemaking for others!

We cannot give them everything done and thought and decided for them!

I mean if you give students the opportunities to create in any way they like (student are not all the same, they have different abilities/skills so don’t expect the same output from every student) they will surely get easily involved in a project or lesson and participate therefore with much more enthusiasm. It is also important to make connections to their lives and encourage interpretations of the world around us that make sense to them. This also means non to confine learning to the classroom but opening the classroom to the world..to bring the world inside.

All we have to do is make students realize that opportunities are nothing if they are not seized and realized.
Last November we did a creative project in our school. Students created hand-made Christmas decorations for the school Christmas tree, which we put in the school foyer. One of our students also made a poster with seasons greetings in 8 languages, the languages students learn at our school.

You can spot opportunities when you experience different things. One good way of experiencing is visiting the workshops, laboratories and other work spaces of different occupations. You can suggest innovative ideas, share opinions, ask, find different solutions, only when you see these people work and you work with them. We should pay attention to the practical side of experience. Students never forget when they practice.

First of all, learners make an interview in teams about the topic we are dealing with (with a broad approach). At the end, we get several good solutions to prototype.

My school is a Secondary High school where different projects are fostered to to support the empowerment of students in spotting opportunities. For example in the Erasmus plus Key 2 project "Exploring sustainability in the food sector" 2015/2016, the most relevant topics addressed by this project were: Entrepreneurial learning - entrepreneurship education, Environment and climate change, ICT - new technologies - digital competences, foreign languages, especially English. In the project my school students took over the role of entrepreneurs in the food sector. They were able to find out how difficult it can be to combine business objectives and the aim of sustainability. This could make them reconsider standard ideas about the aims of business as well as consumer behaviour. The project was carried out transnationally in order to reflect business relations in the EU food sector, which is highly internationalized. Also a lot of the alternative models for food production such as the Slow Food movement are transnational. Working together with peers from other European countries were enable students to compare the mechanisms of the food sector in their countries and the role that alternative business models play in each of them.

Another annual event is entrepreneurial week in the beginning of October. Then, different smaller and bigger events are organised. Every year there are several students´ companies in our school. They act as real companies for one year starting from ideas to developing and marketing a product. It is a voluntary activity for students but I think it shoulb be compulsory. Even if they fail, it is also an experience. We should encourage our students more practically to fulfil their ideas. There is a subject in which students are requested to spot opportunities, and throughout the school year they reflect on their spotted business ideas and build a business plan on them. But everything is supposed to be done mostly on paper.

I try to teach them how to discover opportunities by using design thinking, training them how to see the world through new eyes, practicing empathy. I use ideo website and also dschool information and kits. They practice the empathy interview, but I find a lot of problems to juggle the outdoor activities with the academic ones.

Afterwards, we develope the business idea with lean methodologies, and they learn how to prototype, test and pivot, introducing changes in their ideas.

The problem is that the curricula doesn’t regard the design thinking or lean startup methodologies, it depends on the particular teacher if they are introduced in the classroom or not. The subject can be developed mostly theoretically, and the learning environment it is not organized in a flexible and adaptable way. There isn’t much interaction with the outside world, and it is difficult to implement it.
We could improve this, but at least have to take a specific subjet centered on entrepreneurship.

Spotting opportunities is crucial in daily life and as teachers we should improve it by proposing projects and operative learning to our students. I work in the lower secondary school and I try to make my students subjects of their learning: they always make something such as little brochure if we work on geography or make other tools or videos. In Italy we have a lot of problems with burocrazia and it's difficult to think "entrepreneurial "as you have to ask for a lot of permissions: to the headmaster, to parents, to other colleagues etc.
