The message in the story was that her mother moved to New Zealand and how her mother was sort of scared and also excited to move to a whole different country with lots of different people, and languages and also moved away from her family which I would also feel scared and left out about in this situation. I think it was not fair that she is called an alien. I think that this was a great poem and the writer did a fantastic job at writing this as war is quite a hard sad topic to write about.
