Imagine anywhere you are right now as long as you have access to the internet, you can be exposed to a variety of cultures and be social, all  because of a single device. So why?, How? Can we expect some expectations that is or was never a reality?.

When we hear the words “Information Technology”, we automatically think about computers and complex codes. It was very futuristic back then to expect that computers and automatic machines will become a reality. When computers came it helped us humans to be efficient and productive, but as time passes and people became innovative, that computer became a powerhouse of almost anything we humans can barely do. Media and Communication became widespread and accessible. People became social and shared their feelings through the internet. Social Media came out and was a game changer for all of us, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram became Media mixed with Communication. All of the data,  personal information, beliefs and emotions can be shared through this platform, Alongside this information is the behavior and culture of us all. So as people from around the globe sees and appreciates one’s culture, they tend to follow it. 

The rise of the western culture greatly shows the impact of Information Technology. Countries like the Philippines was westernized by the colonizers, but it also dealt an impact from various countries like Japan and Korea. That’s why you can see Filipinos adopting Korean culture like its cuisine and behaviors, same situation for Japan.

As information technology helps spreading culture through social media, it made an impact to the people especially internet users. K-dramas, Anime and music are some of the factors of Cultural impact here in the Philippines. K- Drama watchers tend to act and behave in a Korean manner, same with Anime watchers and music like hip-hop is now starting to gain popularity here in the Philippines, these are some of the examples of how Information Technology makes an impact culturally and socially in our lives.
