Spanish composer and organist. The music of Tomás Luis de Victoria transcends the borders of the polyphonic Renaissance, its balance and purity, to announce and express the Baroque.
It is 1565 went to Rome to perfect his musical knowledge and prepare for the priesthood.
In 1575 he received priestly ordination, and three years later he entered the Congregation of the Oratory founded by St. Philip Neri, where he had as a companion the Spanish singer and composer Francisco Soto de Langa.
In 1587 he returned to Spain, where, under the protection of Philip II, he was appointed chaplain and chapel master of the Convent of the Descalzas Reales, in the service of the Empress Maria, sister of the monarch. During the years she held this position, Victoria composed few works: only two new editions of Masses and the Six-Letter Office, written in 1603 for the funerals of her royal patroness.
