We haven't had a conversation for the longest time. Right now I'm sneaking in writing this thing and reviewing for an exam tomorrow, but I can't let this week end without having written something, anything, on here.

So here we go.

Those little nonsense conversations we used to have in class back in second year will always be with me. Not so much what we talked about, but the fact that remembering those times make me feel a lot better. You have this uncanny talent of making people feel like they're a lot better, funnier, talented than they really are, and if people like that aren't the sort of friends you'd wanna keep around, then you must have a screw loose or something.

Maybe life got in the way, or maybe it's just what happens when you're thousands of meters away from high school friends, but I really wish we could have those conversations again. A little taste of a time when I dreaded seeing my grades (sinulit ko na lahat ng singko at kwatro nun eh HAHAHAHAHAHAHA) but really looked forward to fool around and mess up with you guys.

I guess it took me this long to even get writing cos I really didn't know what to say. Not because there's not much to say, but because there really is to much to say.

Man, we had really dumb conversations and I'd draw stupid pictures and write stuff that would make me cringe today, but you always convinced me that I was doing a great job.

As much as you insist that I made you smile or be happy,

I'd be lying if I said you didn't make me smile a whole lot wider.

I look forward to drawing you another bad picture, writing another dumb poem that I'll make you read, and simple afternoons when nothing much mattered besides hiding from my Math teachers and having conversations about all sorts of useless stuff and making you laugh and smile.

I don't know if we'll ever see each other again in the next six years or something, but for now (or by the time you read this), I hope you have a nice couple birthday meals, a day out, a movie, a book run, maybe a nice day-off with lotsa junk food and shows to binge when you're not really up for any of that.

And oh, here's a long dumb letter that could have just as easily been me saying Happy Birthday Sam!!! instead of going through the long, tiring task of writing all this, while you're at it.

P.S. Remember when we sang a duet in first year? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

We've been through so much shit these past 4 years hahahahah kung anu-ano ang ginagawa natin. I don't say it enough pero you're such a blessing. You're one of the people I can truly share everything with, from suffering in school to fangirling about BTS (OPPPPPAAAAA!!!). We been together through all these ups and downs, whether it be ranting about the state of our nation or being late once again to the cinema. Knowing you has definitely changed me. You are turning 20 years old today? WTF man. AND I am so blessed to have spent more than 6 years of those doing crazy stuff from sharing everything like utensils during lunch time, jackets and water bottles in HS (which were all yours actually) to now sharing our existential crises and longing for love and purpose in life. Maturity and college and life in general has changed the things we talk about and even the people that we are but they have not changed the way we talk to each other.

I can begin naming the times I would like to thank you but there's just too many at this point. So, THANK YOU. Corny ko but whatevs gurl alam mo na lahat like even to the most raw and inappropriate details HAHAHA I do this to inspire you to be more honest. I know Sam that it might feel difficult to say what you really mean all the time, especially because you care about others so much and sometimes you'd think its easier to not tell the truth but this is a trying time and you should at least try to fight. Be true. Be honest. This way you'll live a (somehow) easier, guiltless life. No person is perfect and that's exactly what makes each person uniquely beautiful. We try so hard that we forget that it's okay to make mistakes. There is nothing shameful to falling a little short. There is no shame in admitting the need for help. It's okay to admit that we are not strong enough on our own. You have your friends and family for that.

You still remain a candid, big-nosed, kind person who endures more than expected and overcomes with so much grace. The years have just tempered you and given you more reasons for the things you believe in. At this point, they have been broken down and shredded in front of you for you to piece together to its new form. Its an honor to watch you grow and flourish to the person you are now. I am so proud of you, always. I hope you know that I've got your back always. (literally for anything kahit na feel mo mababaw, walang mababaw sis seryoso hehehe).

I love you, Sam. From the atria that receives my blood and the ventricles that pump them, I am so grateful for you.
