Thoughts from Report Cards
-Loved the new format of the report cards
-Parent Voice piece was awesome. Most  parents were supportive and wrote thoughtful comments

Shifts of assessment practices we've made
-moving quick scale language to new language and ensuring assessment language is in line with the new reporting  
-putting more trust in myself (the teacher) that the students know where they are at
-students can explain their own strengths and weaknesses

Indigenous Education
-comes up in SS with the textbook
-in Math, thinking about how you can measure without a ruler as well as using manipulatives and looking at patterns
-learning about it in Science
-listening to stories and moving into discussions

Teaching Self-Regulation
-"Find a girlfriend, it works"
-working on zones in the classroom, self-identification
-teacher uses tally marks on white board for class so that they're aware of impulse controls

Technology Integration
-code.org
-bill nye style videos for presentation
-lack of technology in the school
-math games online: Geogebra, Khan Academy
-Fresh Grade

- much more diligent with FreshGrade and add more specific comments that pertain to the curriculum 
- better observational notes
- capture quotes from children 
- portfolio (hardcopy) dabbling in FreshGrade
- still using C - but shifts have been driven by MakersSpace 
- more observing and listening 
- not going in with the answer I want 
- noticing emergent curriculum 
- student self-reporting 
- facilitator as opposed to “shoving knowledge” on them 
- Report Cards- Parent reflections, ELL parents were able to write (offered to help but no one took it) glad I included it. Had parents in to translate for their child
- using labels or post-it notes for quick observations 
- post-it binders with competencies in mind 
- shifting to looking for the good behaviours

How do you integrate Indigenous education? 
- “Learning involves patience and time”  
- “Learning is embedded in memory, history, and story”
- using picture books 
- acknowledge the aspects that are embedded into our daily practice (sitting in a circle, acting out stories, reading a story in two parts, embedding the students’ stories into their art)
- weaving 
- Indigenous education is community oriented - looking inward 

How do you teach self-regulation?
- talking about keeping out minds and our bodies still “quiet”
- situational conversations 
- music 
- relaxational exercices
- zones of regulation
- quiet area
- extra support in transitions 
- helping them become aware of their challenges 
- walking through the problem - solving the problems

- keeping our bodies calm as an example for the students 

How do you integrate technology?

- going with buddies to the computer lab
- document projector (math game, books) 

Share two stars and a wish for your class? 
- Stars: Strong sense of community & effective use of using the Zones of Regulation / Wish: I want to help my student make friends (supporting the parents - play dates, play at the playground) 
- Stars: Their creativity, and great imaginations / Wish: We continue to work on self regulation 
- Stars: They’re very focused and curious (risk takers) / Wish: For them to continue to look from other children’s perspectives
- Stars: They’re so creative and imaginative / Wish: We need to continue work on being kind to one another.
