People create a different persona online, due to the fact they may rather hide their real self online just to fit into groups of people, and feel good about them self and try to be something they're not or they want to be. People could also be having problems at home, like Abuse, SH, depression, a bad household, suicide, or a family/friend's death and go to the internet to make themself feel better or try to distract themself from the things happening or even may try to get help from other people who may have the same problem, or who have a better life now and are healed. Problems like these could be another reason why people go on the internet and create a different persona. Another reason that people create a different persona could be use for stalking people, hacking, or pranks/jokes. For example, on TikTok there are many sides of the plat form for different people, like 'Furry's' they are kids who act like an animal or a mythical creature. Thats creating a different persona.

People pretend to be someone they're not to escape the reality of the real world. It's not about being scared or uncomfortable. Think about being in front of a screen with voice chat or a messaging system, they don't know what's behind the screen, they cannot see the person who I am and the life that lay's behinds that screen, therefore it makes it more comfortable to act a certain way and create a fake identity.
