As we live on and on, we are able to accomplish many things. We also fail at others, but we always get back up because we have time to get back up. There comes a point where time comes to an end. That darkness that none of us can hide from, none of us can escape it. Death always awaits. Death is common theme I found in many of our poems and a topic that everybody can relate to. I will be exploring this specific theme.

This poem by W.H. Auden demonstrates the effect that one's death has upon others. Especially that one significant other. Sometimes death comes to that one person we love the most or we spend the most time with. In this poem we see this situation and the person's grief is somewhat extreme, but normal in many ways. The grief shown, "prevent the dog from barking", "for nothing now can ever come to any good" illustrateshow the world is coming to an end for this person. How is it possible to stop a dog from barking? Clearly Death hits hard on everybody, not only on the ones that die, but also on the ones that are living.

Nature is witness of all deaths. In this case we see the use of personification through the speaking of the grass. The grass is telling the people or soldiers to just pile the dead bodies in these war zones and let him do his job. Its like the grass is so used to covering up death and witnessing it that it now calls it its job. As long as there is life there will be death.

Here we have a person who is taking a stand for what he believes. He questions that although this country is worth fighting for, is it really worth all the deaths of all the soldiers that are brave enough to fight for us. The poem describes the fallen dead as "heroic" and "happy". E.E. Cummings uses a very sarcastic tone through out this poem and you can say that this description of dead soldiers was a bit sarcastic. Yes they are heroes, but how many heroes have died and how many will have to continue to die for our freedom? Besides , after it all only one truly wins and that is Death.

Based on a true story, this poem captivates how death is something that can't be escaped. Ever heard of it being someone's "time". Well that time doesn't have to be when you grow old it can be whenever. Here we have a mother trying to avoid a hostile environment for her child by denying her request to go to the march. Instead she sends her to church, a safer more calm place. Little did she know that it was her very young daughter time. Death can be mysterious in the fact of how it happens.

The Devil's Game

I found this poem to be very deep. Some of us believe that there is a true God who sent his one and only son, Jesus to die for me and you, so we can have the option to go to heaven. Some of us believe that there is a heaven and a hell, and that when we die we go to one or the other. For those who believe and live by God's rules death comes to their lives, but it's a winning because our soul obtains eternal life. We relate death with the devil because it is to his benefit to kill and try to take you to hell. Some of us are so blinded by the devil and the desires of this world like money, fame, and honor that we don't realize the trap we have fallen to. These things the devil uses to deceive you, and take your soul. It doesn't matter what you do in this life or earth, it's where you go after it all, Heaven or Hell, you choose.

In this world there are many different people. Unfortunately, death comes to everybody, to the bad doing, as well as the good doing. Here we take a look at the ignorance of humans. Those who don't realize that the way they are living, they are opening the door for death every day. There is no doubt that death will reach us but, death can come sooner than expected.

I have chosen to include this poem because it explores death within a love relationship. There is a girl writing to her mate, remembering many moments of their relationship. All of these moments are bad things that she had done for whatever reason. After every situation she thought it would be the last straw and that he would be fed up and end the relationship, but he didn't. Then we are informed that her mate died after everything he put up with her, "so many things I wanted to tell
you when you returned from Vietnam. But you didn't". This poem is heartbreaking, but we must acknowledge that this happens more than often and that we fear that it will happen in our lives.

The art that is talked about in this poem is the art of losing. The writer keeps insisting that the art of losing is not too hard to master. Some examples or scenarios it uses are "lost door keys" and "lost my mother's watch". These are all things that happen and we get through, but then when it comes about to losing a person, "Even losing you" the writer has to force one self to finish the poem declaring that it isn't hard to master. You can tell that even a person who lost someone a long time ago, one's death still hurts and once was a disaster.

This poem evolves around the death of an animal. The man pulls over to try and remove the deer out of the way and realizes that there are babies that are alive inside the deer. after a hard thought he ends up pushing the deer over the edge and not helping the babies in the womb. Death is world wide there are some deaths that bring sadness but our easy to move past compared to others. I see the deer as a family member you never knew. The family member dies and brings sadness to you, but you move past faster than others who probably did have a strong connection with that one person. W e can also see the tragedies in the world, they hurt but many move past it because it doesn't really affect them. It's the hard truth.

I really enjoy the words of this poem, it speaks to many of us.
