“fell in love with the conundrum bitterness”

When the traveller was introduced to a new aspect of drink being “coffee”, he was attracted to the new, different flavour of it.

Thus, the usual regimen of the traveler is shown. How the herbal tea he possessed previously showed the lifelessness and how monotonous his life was, for him to appreciate the bitterness of coffee. The bitterness of something is usually associated with negativity, yet the traveller appreciates its contrasting flavour which is livening, to the herbal tea.

All in all, this music video presents us with the intention that the two main characters have travelled to the past, all to rectify the similar perspectives found in the dull, humdrum of Paris/ European states.

Journeying through the video slowly unravels the storyline of how Jay Chou “influenced” historically renowned paintings. This video showed how JC widened the scope of many impressionists & artists views, eradicating the confinement of artistic standards they were expected to meet (in the 1900s). This symbolizes my interpretational plot of the music video, which is: When JC changed artists' mundane perspectives, it was a diverge from their fixed concept of art and life, and with a fresh view, sparked life & meaning into their conformist mannerisms and therefore inspiring their prominent artworks today.

The overall theme of the music video is how timeless and boundary breaking art as a whole is. In the music video Jay Chou portrays himself alongside all of these famous artists of a different time and continent, as if saying that he should be counted alongside them as one of the greats. At one point in the music video Jay Chou appears to have a friendly competition with Lang Lang, another famous Chinese pianist from the modern day, of which there is no clear winner. At the end of the video when Jay Chou is about to return to the modern day with all of his photos, Lang Lang shines a flashlight on him and raises his eyebrow. The shining of the light is symbolism for how their competition is still ongoing and that Lang Lang and Jay Chou still shine brightly as artists, perhaps suggesting that it is too early to stand beside the greatest artists of history.

The MV was able to depict how inferior and vulnerable jay chou felt as he travelled back in time to Paris. We can see in the MV through the lyrics and video where he feels the need to groom himself to blend in with the people (showing how he's self-conscious ). He also tries to make a mark by competing with this other pianist who seems better (better piano, in the center) (JC wants to establish himself) because of this we can see somewhat of a tension between them as they both (seemingly) yearn to be the best. Jay is very condescending of Lang Lang - Jay’s impressions of himself are very egoistic and confident, but this in contrast also shows his insecurity as one of the 2 asians in Europe. Chinese have a low chance in succeeding in Europe, so they might be competing for who stays. However, at the end we can see on Jay chou's "list" that he was actually supposed to help his rival - Lang Lang.

Moral of the story?-The Chinese should have worked together instead of competing against one another.

Side note: Jay Chou MIGHT not have been trying to help the artists but sabotaging them to make himself look better?

resulting in, the "Greatest Works of Art" (unintentional)

The music video, greatest works of art, shows Jay Chou and Lang Lang in Europe. It showed the greatest artists of all time and in the notebook, the ??? Is hinting that Jay Chou will join them in as a great artists, joining them in the greatest works or art. In the scene where Lang Lang and Jay chou met, there was a nuance of competition, and duel against each other. Lang Lang was seen superior, playing on the grand piano. At the end of the music video, Lang Lang shone a light at Jay Chou, hinting and duel to show who will end up in he greatest works of art. However, this time, Jay Chou is on the grand piano foreshadowing an imminent victory. However, Jay Chou is a Chinese singer and pop artist while Lang Lang is a classical musician. They are playing a different ball game and competing against each other wouldn't make sense. Thus, I believe the light shone at Jay Chou was to show that both of them are in the greatest works of art in Paris. I believe since they are both in the greatest works of arts, the light shone also signals a new journey in which they will duet together, creating THE greatest works of art.

Sanyu, a chinese-french painter who was seen in the video painting women crossing their legs modestly, changed his style. This is after Jay transformed the previously dull potted plant into one with vibrant blooming buds, Sanyu was fascinated. He had a newfound inspiration and perspective to his artworks. In a later scene where Jay was writing in his notebook, a doodle of legs in a different sitting position was drawn next to Sanyu's name. This contrasts his previously more reserved artworks, as his current pieces explore more provocative and sexual undertones which was considered scandalous given his Chinese background and its culture of modesty. This shows Sanyu's evolution in the angle of his art and an awakening in maturity and artistry. Hence, the connection of these two scenes present the idea of experimenting with unconventional and new things despite its negative connotation.
