There are a variety of different social behaviors that specific species employ to increase their chances of survival and their rates of production. Some social behaviors are swarming, schools, flocks, and herd. One type of social behavior that animals do is herding, which has many advantages for a species. A few examples of animals that herd include zebras, sheep, and cattle.

Herds are a large group of animals that live, feed, migrate, or work together as a livestock. A big benefit of being in a herd is an increase in protection from predators. If animals are in a group, predators are more likely to single out a certain animal and leave the majority of them alone. Other benefits of living in a herd include a higher efficiency in foraging and hunting for food.

Animals living in herds could be considered as an antipredator adaptation as it provides a dramatically higher chance of survival. If a species was being eaten too much, they would have started travelling in herds to provide more protection. Other animals that are born in the herd follow what their parents do, causing more and more animals to travel in the pack.
