Today I had individual study time. I read and learned about key competences, which are a combination of knowledge, skills and attitudes. Each competence is explained in detail with the help of this. Mojca and I have talked about students with disabilities. We made a plan to include them, because it is often the case that their families are also socially and economically disadvantged. This mean that they have fewer opportunities to acquire knowledge, develop social skills, positive experiences of life...

It was also a very interesting weekend here in Guadeloupe.

Yesterday evening and today, costumed locals from all over the country walked down Main Street to the beat of drums. The action was livery, colourful, full a song, drumming and dancing. There were many people in the street admiring them. I'm glad to have experienced the pulse of Carnival here, on the other side of the world.

Today, I learned about the French education system, known for its national curriculum, traditional teaching, high standards, and strict discipline. School is serious, and fun is not the focus. Sports and creative activities are organized outside of school.

I compared this with the German system, which is more flexible and includes more activities in school.

I also tried the local dish “Lambis” in Guadeloupe and visited the carnival in Sainte-Anne, where I learned about the tradition of whip cracking.

I reviewed the training content of the past few days today and reflected on what we have learned so far. Additionally, there was an intensive exchange about the different school systems. This allowed us to compare our own approaches with those in other countries, which also helped us better understand the system in our own country.

Today I had another great day with my course participants Johanna, Michael and Wojtek. I learned a lot about school life in Italy and Spain. We discussed the different cultural influences in school lessons, rules and rituals, teaching methods, and projects. Additionally, we looked into the career paths of teachers, from university studies to training and finally to their official start in each respective country.
Wojtek also shared his experiences from Erasmus training courses, and I learned how to write project applications.
We ended the day with a lovely dinner in Deshaies.

Today's interactions have proved, if proof were needed, that the internationalization of European education is going great. The exchange of ideas, be it pedagogical, administrative or anecdotal is not only engaging but also effortlessly efficient. The way it goes reminds me of conversations between expert scientists who grasp each other's ideas even before they have finished their sentences, or of virtuoso musicians jamming together. In other words, to leave aside our usual technical language, we get each other from the get-go. The sky's the limit!

I learnt a lot about the German and Spanish school systems today. The German school system is federally organised, so each federal state has its own regulations. The school career begins with primary school (4 years). This is followed by lower secondary school, which is divided into different types of school. The Gymnasium leads to the Abitur after 8 or 9 years, which gives access to university. Alternatively, there are vocational schools or the specialised baccalaureate.

The Spanish school system is organised centrally and is divided into Primaria (primary school, 6 years) and Secundaria (4 years). This is followed by either the Bachillerato (2 years, a prerequisite for university) or vocational training (Formación Profesional).

I have learned about different school systems, which includes Italian, German, France and Spanish. Some things are very in common but there are a few differences which makes the system special. At the afternoon I had a chance to see the carneval which was completely different from carneval in Slovenia. I could feel the connection of communities and wish of the people to forget daily routine and be free and playfull for a day or two.
