So What? Students will benefit from having teachers with aligned visions, strong resources, a unified global outlook.

So What? Students will be able to craft/complete an interdisciplinary Global Capstone Project that will fulfill one of the goals and requirements of our school’s Comprehensive Improvement Plan

Now What?
- Develop a group of teachers from at least three disciplines to create a provisional committee to create the sequence and scope of the project.
- Research other/similar projects in other schools.

- Create a structure (through a new course or outside of school) that would support students’ progress.

- How does administration envision seeing this project as part of the school’s overall goals?
- What other resources would the school be able to provide to support this project?

So What?  Students can have direct interaction with members of the Glocal community.

So What? CHS students will benefit from lessons that have more of a global focus.

So What? This topic is important because producing globally competent students who can critically think glocally will prepare them to be internationally competitive.

Now What? Let’s create collaborative PLC groups from different disciplines that address the incorporation of the SDGs in their daily curriculum.

So What? Students will benefit from access to project based learning with a global perspective across all of their classes and years at school.

Curriculum - SEL and global competency alignment 

Our students/teachers/counselors do not currently have a consistent social emotional learning curriculum.  Can we blend global competencies and CASEL standards for a great social-emotional learning experience for all students?

Who are the district stakeholders who need to be involved? Could this be included in counselor PD plans for next year?

So What? Teachers will feel more comfortable with implementing Global Learning into their teaching practices due designated support. The students will benefit from having global learning implemented with fidelity throughout a school and/or division.

What benefits do you see with developing a position like this in our district? What challenges will occur with trying to gain support for this job? Should this position be implemented in this district, what challenges will the person with this job title face and what support will they have to overcome those challenges?

Research & develop information as to why this will benefit your school.

So What? Students will be better prepared to solve global problems and find success in the global economy if they learn skills and content infused with global competencies.

What does it take to make this happen? Who can be allies? 

So What?  Why would a school that lies 88 miles from our Southern border miss an opportunity like this?

Now What?  Waiting for pandemic restrictions to ease; establishing a link with a tutoring center in Palomas, Chihuahua; arranging passports; assessing needs after meeting independently with teachers in Palomas; meeting with students to help them structure lessons; gaining parental permission & administrative endorsement; finding time (perhaps in May)

So What? By enhancing these other three domains into my already existing projects, I will increase student motivation, engagement, and learning. I will engage them in work that is truly of consequence in today’s global society.

So What?  The students understand that what they are learning isn’t just a classroom initiative but it is a life initiative and is important not just to learn, but to live. 

Consider how to incorporate global competency into the lives of our students outside of the classroom, but still inside the school 

I am not sure exactly how this would look so it would take more conversation and understanding. But my goal is to get kids to see that it isn’t about just learning about the world but embracing they know about the world in their daily actions. 

So What? Share resources with colleagues, support them by helping with curriculum development, invite them to visit my classroom, invite them to participate on my school trips.

Now What?  Meet with the administration and begin preparing for the summer in order to be ready for the fall.

So What? Teachers and students will have curriculum that is culturally responsive and reflective of students’ identities and cultivate global/ local interest and change.

NOTE: I work to help the students AND adults see that what the kids offer is often of equal or greater value than what adults bring to the table.

So What? Recognitions gain attention from the school community and community at large. They also reinforce what we are already doing and encourage others to build on it.

So What? Students, parents, and community members can collaborate within our community to serve each other, meet needs, and have an aligned vision of what to expect from each other

What about you? How can we develop authentic relationship without feeling “threatened” by each other?

So What? We can really shift the teaching & learning, and culture of our school if we really take close look at our practices.
