Masa Mara considers himself an African, a citizen of the world but more so a citizen of Africa. He has fled from his home country Rwanda from the genocide in 1992 with his family and started off his journey in Congo. It has been a long journey since then and today Masa Mara finds himself in Cape Town, South Africa. The narrative in my pinion about refugees that Masa Mara wants to communicate is that We are all citizens of the world and we are all connected as one. He believes in honoring his surroundings and his heritage and by doing so Masa Mara prides himself in celebrating Africa as a continent and celebrating its people. Afro futurism is strongly present in his work and reason for this is to shed light on the African identity, to showcase how we as Africans deserve to be seen , not just through the eyes of the Western, but through fashion and art it is clear that Africa has its own identity and by means of Afro futurism it is shown. Fashion matters and is imperative to the world as it is a communication medium, clothes are worn everyday and fashion is seen, but it is not a frivolous matter as some people might think, Fashion is political, it is alive and it speaks and communicates matters that are important to us as humans. Masa Mara breaks down barriers between people by collaborating and merging practices, techniques and cultures to create solidarity and growth , which can only be obtained if we work together and not apart. For survival i think it is clear that Masa Mara is an example of how we can all survive and thrive if we just have a sense of humanity and ubuntu. Last but not least it is important to follow sustainable practices at this is imperative to our survival as the human race, Masa Mara support this clearly through his upcycling work and sustainable practices.

1. The title of my collection is Finding Freedom post War.
2. Obtaining freedom after World War 3: Covid19 Pandemic.
3.The title relates to the story of my collection as what we have all yearned for during the year 2019 to present is a yearning for freedom, the concept and story connects to this as for a long time we were stuck in our homes with basically nowhere safe to go.
4.Elements of design such as line shapes and colors will be used to express what it means to have newfound freedom, what we do with it and how it is celebrated.
5.The design of my collection delves into what freedom looks like post pandemic, what will we be doing with our time and how we will embody freedom.
6. The materials that will be used in my collection is soft caressing fabrics, that celebrates freedom, is soft to touch and has a party, celebratory feel.
