What major events impacted the subject’s life? List at least 3 events & how they impacted their lives.

The major events that happened in the book would be when she decided to fake a pregnancy for her senior project. She wanted to do this because she feels like in her school there is lots of stereotypes and how young girls in her school get treated differently than the other girls. Gaby wanted to fake a pregnancy for her senior project.

The second event would be when she started to tell people that she got pregnant. Which is when people would start to give her looks, start rumors, judge her. Some of her friends even stopped being her friend after she told them. There was only two people that knew that she wasn’t actually pregnant, her mom and Jorge.

At the end of the book she revealed that she was faking her pregnancy the whole time. She told everyone at the school assembly. It made people mad because she was lying to them the whole time, but also the students were glad that she was faking it because they would say that she just ruined her rest of her life.

When does the story take place?- In the early 2010. In a small town in Washington.

How did the time period impact the people, conflicts, and plot?- During this time teen pregnancy was a bigger issue because they would get judged by girls at there school and if they would get pregnant at a young age they would believe that they wouldn’t be successful in life. This helped Gaby’s experiment because she was getting told all of this bad stuff and how she ruined her life but that just helped her in the end. People can assume things quick and the worst without all knowing what is really happening.

Where did the main action of the story take place?- It mostly took place at Gaby’s high school.

How did the places impact the people, conflicts, plot?- Gaby’s family had a pretty big history of teen pregnancies. When she did this experiment she was able to know how others feel like when going through this. With all of the stereotypes and the lack of support by people. Gaby’s family was the most surprised by this experiment because they knew that Gaby wanted to break the cycle of teen pregnancies in there family.

What lesson did the author want the audience to take away after reading?- I think that the main lesson was to not judge other based on stereotypes. If they have a different life then you, wear the same clothes everyday doesn’t mean that they are any less then you and that you aren’t just better then everyone.

How do you know?- I know this because she faked her pregnancy with a purpose to show how rude and harsh people can be.

How do you think the author’s personal and professional life impacted how, and why they wrote this book?- I think that the author’s personal and professional life impacted why they wrote this book. I know this because in Gaby’s personal life her mom and sisters were a teen moms. There family just expected that she would be one to by the way she grew up. This wasn’t the case for her because she wanted to brake the cycle of teen pregnancy in her family. She wanted to make it more aware to teen pregnacy.

How did the author use ethos to develop the theme and purpose of this story?- The author used ethos to show us how she grew up in a community that teen pregnancy were very common and this made it really easy in the book to discuss these issues that they were having.

How did the author use pathos to develop the theme and purpose of this story?- Gaby used it in the story to really make the reader understand what she was going through when she was faking her pregnancy. With all of the judgement and stereotypes that she was going through.

How did the author use logos to develop the theme and purpose of this story?- Gaby shows logos in the story by using the other people in the story and how they can influence other people what they should think about someone. Gaby was very supportive of how teen pregnancy is a topic that doesn't get talked about much and approaches the problem herself.

“I felt like a zoo animal. All eyes went straight to my belly before people looked at my face.” (Page 130) I think that this quote shows the theme the best because in the quote she is sharing how she is feeling about getting judge for the pregnancy before everyone knew that it was fake. I think that the main theme is to not judge other because you don’t know what they are really going through.

I think that it relates to the book because in the book many time Gaby wanted to give up on her experiment. She wanted to show the people how judgmental people can be. The book and the song both try to say how to be yourself even though people aren’t believing in you but you are the only one that matters.
