The most significant lesson I learnt in this unit is the effectiveness of visual communication when one needs to explain ideas in an understandable manner. The graphic text activity encouraged me to employ reading and writing critical skills as well as thinking like a designer. It taught me the value of layout, colors, and word selection in communicating the information as quickly as possible to the readers.

The reading strategy I would like to employ in future reading is to preview and mark. Reading after skimming titles, headings, and pictures has proven to help me to concentrate, whereas annotation keeps me active and allows me to comprehend the topic more than when I was not using it.

The one piece of advice I would offer a person taking this unit would be to use the writing process and plan, draft, revise. Also, do not underrate the possibility of images and captions. Consider what the reader/ viewer has to know and offer it in the best, simple way possible. This unit has enabled me to become a more efficient reader, writer and communicator.

The greatest lesson that I learned during this unit was being enlightened on the benefits that can come about with the interworking of visual and written forms of communication. The process of the creation of the graphic text revealed to me that well-placed visuals with brief and narrow tense captions may simplify complex information. Prior to this, I did not pay much attention to writing in paragraphs and keeping them to a minimum but since then I was able to appreciate the use of design and images to reinforce my message.

Scrolling through the headings and pictures of the text before reading in detail is one of the reading techniques that I will apply again. It assists me in laying a foundation and ensuring that I am ready and become more receptive to the material. It also saves time in the reading of informational texts.

To anybody beginning this unit, my point of advice is the planning of your graphic must be careful. Consider which pictures and colours will be the most supportive within your message and train yourself to place short captions that nevertheless contain key information. In addition, fear not to revise your piece a few times. Editing will help you become clearer in what you write and will make it more polished.

My biggest learning moment in this unit was realizing how much the format of information affects how it’s understood. When I created my graphic text, I saw firsthand how layout, visuals, and concise captions could make a complex idea quick and easy to grasp. This completely changed how I approach presenting information.

The strategy I plan to use again in future readings is active reading. Highlighting key details, making quick margin notes, and summarizing each section in my own words helped me stay engaged and remember the material better. It also made it easier to pull out important facts when writing my paragraph.

My advice to someone starting this unit is to pace yourself and trust the process. Break tasks into smaller steps, focus on the key points, and don’t be afraid to revise your work. Each part of the unit builds on the other, so if you stay organized and put effort into each stage, you’ll finish feeling more confident in your reading and communication skills.

The most important lesson that I took in this unit was that reading was much more effective when it had been previewed and when I did not get into detail. The visibility of first headings, pictures, and captions provided me with a clear understanding of the overview with the perspective of what I am going to learn. It facilitated the linking of ideas when reading and note making became a lot more targeted.

The practice that I intend to repeat during future readings is the one to take active notes and use visuals. Rather than simply trouncing sentences, I prefer to employ either bullet points, diagrams and petite symbols to display ideas. It makes it much faster to review it later and makes my notes interesting.

I would recommend to the person who is new to this unit to reduce it into simple and ordered processes. This is because new information is located in exam, so do not attempt to memorize it the first time you read it rather get the overall understanding of it. Also, in writing your graphic writings select the fewest of valuable ideas that you think through your message would speak to the audience. The reading and the assignments will turn out to be a piece of cake, with proper preparation.

By far, the most important thing that I learned during this unit is that much of the comprehension depends on the format of the presented text. When I was condensing strategies for surviving a heat wave or tracing the origins of bubble gum, I found that the manner of presentation of information can completely alter the effectiveness of the text and the ability of the reader to retain the information presented as well. I also found that a format can be supplemented using visual aids to enhance the presentation of information, for the benefit of the reader.

One of the strategies that I will replicate in future work is simplifying complicated information into the key points and then organizing them in the finished format. Not only does this increase clarity, but it also makes sure that I am focusing on the most pertinent information, whether the end result is visual, written, or oral.

To a very new student of this unit, my recommendation would be to think beyond mere perfection of the content. Rather, concentrate on the reception you would like to receive from your audience. Put yourself in their position and ask yourself questions like, what will they remember about it? and what arrangement, tone or order will make it captivating? By thinking of the audience when conducting your work, your presentation will become much stronger.

I also discovered that adding visual elements can make the presentation more engaging and help the reader better understand the material.

For someone just starting this unit, my advice would be to go beyond simply perfecting the content. Instead, focus on how your audience will receive and engage with it. Put yourself in their shoes and ask: What will they take away from this? What order, tone, or structure will keep them interested? By thinking about the audience’s perspective, you can make your presentation far more impactful.
