It is a fairly new country, created in 1965 after it got expelled from Malaysia due to racial riots in 1964 among the Chinese and Malay. Following which, the country went through years of social and economic progress due it's location in the Malaccan strait, a soft but firm dictatorship and an adaption to the varying cultures of the place which led to the country we are now. The country itself has four distinct national languages, Malay, Tamil, Mandarin and English leading to every sign, every board every small piece of information being distinctly written in four ways on the same board. The country has nation wide holidays for all the religions present in the country while having different places of worship all in the same areas. Though the rules might be stricter than most, it is usually relatively safe with very low rates of crime, lowest rates of corruption but at the expense of some privacy. It is hailed as the Switzerland of the east by keeping formerly and strictly neutral to both parties on the political spectrum of the world (currently being inhibited by China and the US) by keeping both of them at strictly arms lengths.  It is also the reason Singapore keeps a conscripted army while the formal volunteering army is relatively tiny but has technological superiority in the region.
