Around 200,000 British soldiers and 150,000 French/Belgium soldiers were saved.  It was known as the miracle of Dunkirk because it was so unlikely to happen. This is seen as a major victory for the Allies because that's 350,000 soldiers that they have that can still fight. The Germans are angry because it was there first major loss in the war. This shows the power Germany has. Later on, that railway car was burned because it was to show that nothing else will ever have to be signed.
