My family growing up was more formal than informal. But, it kind of depended on the situation. We are more of a forward thinking family, so conservative thoughts didn't necessarily do a lot of good for us. Our values were somewhat traditional though, which made a majority of what we did formal. We follow the rules, and respect all those around us.

All Jokes Aside

Jokes weren't really a part of my family life because my Dad's brother was a comedian and my mom didn't think much of it. We were pretty serious while I was growing up, but as I got older I started to think I was a pretty funny guy. Most of the jokes that I would tell appealed to my mom and dads political views.

My parents are very into male and female equality, so they make most of their decisions together. I cannot remember a time when one of them made a decision that the other was not on board with. I believe that they see each other as a completely reliable decision making source and thus they have respect for all of the decisions that each other makes.

Competition vs Cooperation

I grew up as an only child, so it was kind of a mix of competition and cooperation. I was really good at cooperating with my friends and my parents, but being an only child it made me very competitive with my friends as well. I am generally a competitive person and I probably will always be competitive. My mom always pushed me as well, which definitely kickstarted my competitiveness.

Rewards and Punishment

Growing up I usually was just hit by my moms hand but other than that it was just verbal punishment and being grounded from seeing my friends. I am a pretty social guy and so taking away my friends was a huge punishment for me. Rewards didn't come easy, but good grades and doing my chores brought me good food and fun activities that my mom would pay for me to go to. She just made my childhood good if I did what I was asked.
