Mary struggles with the internal conflict of not being confident enough with her artwork. This major conflict may have steamed from, what the reader finds in the beginning of the book,  when one of Mary's pieces of artwork do not get posted into the Salon like in the past years. However, not only did Mary's work not be posted within the Salon this year, her best friend's artwork was posted. I gave this book an 8 out of 10. I gave this book such a rating because I enjoyed how the author brought you back to the time period in Paris of post civil war era. I also enjoyed the main character Mary Cassatt and her strong women role in the novel. Abigail's artwork was posted in the Salon for the first time while Mary's work was not. Even though Abigail is happy with her own personal accomplishments, she makes sure to go out of her way to not let her get her spirits down.
