As evidenced by this sign, only white people were wanted in certain communities. This lack of integration and intellectual darkness leas people to truly believe that white people were intellectually superior to other races.

Although the female power movement was still going on, little was done during this time. As evidenced by this picture, a "good woman" respected and abides by her husband. This represents the social complacency of some women and their male oppressors.

They did this through the arts and literature. Here are two examples of the beat generation movement and of things at the time that moved to end social complacency and intellectual darkness.
