5. Sci-Fi is typically divided into ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ sci-fi. 'Soft’ sci-fi may contain a number of seemingly magic devices, less hard rules, and hazy explanations of the technology. Star Trek or Star Wars is a good example of this. ‘Hard’ sci-fi is the opposite, containing strict rules and having no qualms of killing off characters if they mess up. Historical fiction is a novel or movie in which a story is made up but is set in the past and borrows real characteristics of the time period in which it is set. 

Some important features that the genre offers are a new point of view on a historical event, and a new twist on the plot to an important event in history. They have made many historical novels on the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, and Slavery.
