Anglo-Saxons created a much more efficient way of cultivating the land. Farmers used heavier ox-drawn iron plowing tools to cultivate heavier soils. But this technique made it difficult to turn the plows. For this reason they divided the land into 2 or 3 large fields and then into long strips. One of them was used in spring, the second in autumn and the third was left to rest all year. Between harvests, the animals roamed freely in those that were not being farmed. In this way, it was possible to fertilize the land.

The city was built on a site inhabited by aboriginal tribes who called the place Llyn Din (‘lake fort’). Those Celts had chosen the site as a suitable site for their commercial activities. The city founded by the Romans is present-day London, which over the years, absorbed the small villages in the vicinity
