When I was little I was very interested in books and all the pictures that lit up the page. My mom used to tell me that more often than not I was pretending to read to my little brother, because I didn't know how to read yet, and once I did learn I did so out loud to my little sister.

By the time I was in 4th-grade I was given the opportunity to participate in these read aloud times for younger children. Normally I would get to go to a 1st-grade classroom and read one of my favorite books to them. I looked forward to these days, and loved being able to help others enjoy reading like I did. My favorite part was getting to practice silly voices and take notes from the kids on what they might want me to read the next time.

When I was in Elementary School I participated in a group study program where someone would come and test me in focus content areas. I remember doing a lot of Math, but am pretty sure we did other activities as well. After participating (every time, as we did it a few times a year), I got to get a prize. One time I picked up one of the Warriors novels and then did so again the next time. I liked them so much that they made sure to always include one of these books each time just incase I wanted it!

In 6th-Grade I joined band and choir. During this time I leaned to be comfortable performing in front of others whether that was singing or playing the flute. This was the start of when my music world began. I continued to pursue music extracurriculars all throughout middle school and high school and even competed in competitions. During this time frame I learned a lot of new terminology that I only used for music, but I loved having learned as I now use it as an influence in my preschool classroom and with my son.

During my Sophomore year of High School I joined Color Guard and instead of playing flute I got to perform with my flag during our Halftime Show at our Football Games, as well as in parades like the Mizzou homecoming parade, and competitions. This experience taught me field placements and the importance of color coordinating your flag to the performance as well as counting while walking but never forgetting to start on your left foot.

As I've gotten older I still love to read, and I especially love when I can find a good series. The last group of books I read for fun was this 8 book series. I consider myself to be a bit of a romantic from time to time, and romance novels that are put into a different perspective (for example this series is in a different time period) are some of my favorite to explore.

My favorite part of growing up has been getting to experience the world all over again through my sons eyes. As he has gotten older we have gotten to work a lot on language development. I am working on encouraging him and helping him gain confidence in different areas of his life but especially with his language. We are currently working a lot on sounds and words. He really loves animal sounds and the song twinkle twinkle little star.
