He explains how a song can still showcase repetition even if the lyrics are constantly changing. Although the lyrics can be repetitive you can also find repetition in the tone. Repetition, again, doesn't mean everything has to be completely repetitive the entire way through. Ratliff better explains, "...There is also good repetition, perhaps more periodic than continuous, with longer or perhaps irregular breaks between the actions... Expressed in music, the stops between tones allow the listener think about how to move forward."
The concept of repetition is an element found in songs with what people consider "good musical taste". There's "Party In The U.S.A." which has some obvious repetition presented in the lyrics, whereas in "B.O.B." by Outkast, you find the repetition in the beat as the lyrics change and evolve.
