Wow.The Live binder was FULL of ideas/resources that were very meaningful. I loved the piece on EVERY CHILD, EVERY DAY. These 6 basic fundamentals of reading for every child can so easily be done if we value them and put them in place. My favorite 3 were: A child should read something that interests him/her every day, a child should be allowed to write about something meaningful to him/her every day, and every child should get to listen to an adult ready fluently every day. Amazing, yet simple.

The Quick Reference guide is an easy way to quickly review anything you have forgotten or to self check. I thought the 90 minute block component provided excellent insight on how to plan for reading as well as teaching a 90 minute reading lesson in a full block or broken down into time slots. Example lesson plans were provided. The live binder has a lot of quality materials and numerous resources for teachers.

One of the resources I feel would be beneficial is the use of PowerSchool for retained students vs non-proficient students. This would allow them to see if any progress was made or attempted during the summer reading camp. Allowing students to participate in a 3/4 transitional class or accelerated class, along with the summer reading camp would be beneficial.

I was reading the information on the Reading Summer Camps. I feel that summer reading camps are vital for our students that need interventions. The progress that is made throughout the school year with these students could possibly be lost without interventions in the summer. We have to look at data at the end of the school year to see which students should be participating in reading camps. Many of our students that we are working with are reading at all when they are not at school.
