Helene, a survivor of this "experiment" was told Denmark was like "paradise and you don't have to be sad" according to her mother. when she returned to her community after so many years, she tried to contact family, and her family. she stated that their response or energy was that they "felt a sense of loss and a lack of self-belief". she said that the apology from the government and prime minister helped her a lot, and it felt really healing to hear it all as she was dreaming about that apology since 1996. Impacts such as mistrust in adults, communication barriers, identity loss, culture shock and lost relationships between families/friends. 

In one of the recordings that I was listening to a women said that when she was placed with her foster family she was confused and sad all of the time. At first she couldn't understand what they were saying, but when she returned home her mother could no longer understand her, breaking their relationship completely. One of many subjects discussed is Aaju's personal experience of being sent to Denmark to live with a Danish family as a child. This horrible program was supposed to provide better education and health care for children in Greenland, but in reality, it resulted in the loss of culture, traditional skills, language, and family. The Danish government's apology acknowledged the harm caused by the program and expressed a commitment to working with the Greenlandic government and Inuit communities to address the ongoing legacy of colonization and assimilation. People cannot turn back time but this time period was difficult for many people who were in this program. There were a few people that were "relieved" after the official apology.
