Purpose: To understand what Independent Reading looks like in their classrooms.
How is it the same and different in primary and junior classes?
How often are students doing independent reading and for how long?
Is everyone reading at the same time?
What thinking are the doing when they are reading?
How are teachers providing feedback?
What current assessment and evaluation tools are they using?
Look at current student reading data.

Challenges: Might have some teachers that don’t feel comfortable sharing this information or willing to complete the survey, gathering current student data would be time consuming.

Importance: Jumping off point to develop and implement an effective independent reading program.

Importance: Make sure we are following the best practises for independent reading

Challenges: gathering data is time consuming and it must be accurate

Importance: to ensure that teachers are implementing this program and students are more successful in reading.
