It could quite possibly fall under the category of "cruel and unusual" punishment and does more harm than good. If the intent of the correctional system is to correct misbehavior and create citizens that can reintegrate successfully back into society, then solitary confinement does the exact opposite. - it causes the inmates to be diagnosed with mental illness in which they get no aid for it 
- after they leave from these places they become unsafe members of the society because they don’t get treated for their mental health

    • Which only makes the person that much more unstable

    • You can use it on someone if your racist. There are no rules or regulation. Correctional officers can use it how they please
    • Poor enforcement of protocols. Nothing to enforce the procedure 
    • Arbitrarily used. Results in systemic discrimination against mentally ill, youth, and minorities, political beliefs, age, race). Then they put you in with no repercussions
      Money is wasted to build them rather than fix the harmful system
    • Causes or worsens mental illness. No medical or psychiatric aid. These go with them beyond the bars of prison when they leave. Results in a damaged society

With all due respects, there are people out there whom done acts of extreme inhumane such that it is very difficult for them to understand their true nature, or perhaps for them to understand the nature of society.
