I am looking for a place where I can post my lessons and people will check it out and post lessons that they have used that have worked, too. I would like to be able to ask advice about how to handle different situations (classroom management). It would be nice to be able to have something to use with the students, too. I am considering padlet right now for that... From Mike/Great! From what I can tell Elonia, these networks I have posted don;t seem to offer lessons per se, but sites like Read, Write, Think.Org do or Edutopia might, Bbut I did see some out there that do this.

So I actually downloaded this to my iphone long before this class because it looked interesting. This is NOT a site one would use expressly for the purpose of making contact with other teachers. As an open ended forum, members simply put their material onto boards. The term that is used is CURATED CONTENT.

Think of this as an electronic museum of infinite interests - not necessarily academic - but general in nature. As a network designed to organize and store student information - like an electronic portfolio - this might be really useful in a classroom.

I tried to start a board about what I know and find on the internet about the poetry form Oulipo (found poetry that uses bizarre constraints to limit poetry in an effort to find a found creativity.)

This could be really a good tool for allowing students to help organize a term paper.

I realize this is not the type of social network I was at first considering, something like this would be fun to explore for the purposes of classroom applications. I am sure for Chemistry or ELA we can come up with some other applications. Currently, I am having problems adding boards, but I will figure it out soon.

There is some networking with others, but not necessarily teachers. But this may be a good thing because you might be connecting with artists, scientists etc.

What do you guys think? it could be an alternative to the other sort of "one-stop-shopping" networks.

It really does have a ton of categories, loads of articles, and has a fairly intuitive set up. I looked at a couple different projects in the home decor series...step by step instructions, and each instruction has sub-instructions and articles, in case you need help with that particular step.

There is also a huge selection to choose from...society, games, how to cook, etc... and yes...education!

Definitely looking into a little closer...

So this is what we decided in class: You guys give me some of your key points about the benefits, drawbacks, etc about edmodo.com so I can start putting together the presentation on smart notebook. After Derek adds me to his class for our little trial, I'll take some screen shots and let you know some of my key points. Derek can send some screenshots from the teacher account? I am excited to do this project! I'm so glad to have productive partners... Can't say the same for my summer school job I'm working on right now.... After you start giving me some material, I'll keep you guys updated on what the presentation looks like so far.

Are we okay with this?

I created a folder I will use for my ELA journal work, and was able to connect to my Google Drive - which has all my EdU516 stuff in it! Pretty cool.

Does anyone know if we can chat with Derek if he is the teacher, real time? i can see messaging. Maybe we should arrange a time/date for all of us to be connected to see what this looks like in realtime?

Also - When I logged in i saw this:

Wonder what a parent sign on looks like? Not exactly sure what that could mean for our purposes, as I never grant authority to anything on my phone or computer. :-) Maybe you guys could think of an example of how this might be handy for teaching? Perhaps the Edmodo accounts could link directly to a blogging (Blogspot or Tumblr) account to do writing.

I think only the teacher can create a Snapshot.

We need to figure out how we are going to differentiate our presentation from the one Jack already showed.

So I have taken a screen shot of what the email looks like in Gmail when Derek sent us the notice of the quizzes. Elonia, I am placing here, so you can pull the image. That is what some of these other boards are for as well. Just a way to get you images.

Derek, I saw the snapsot you created. This is great, a quizz and matching exercise. Is that what Snapshot does?

Finally, I was part of a live seminar this morning on Reinventing Writing by Vicki Davis, and she mentioned something called Twister, which is a walled version of Twitter which integrates with Edmoto. I am going to look at what this does and if we want to show it.

I think we should avoid being a strict "how" to like the presentation Jack showed us, and highlight the tools. Present the 3 different views: Teacher, Student and Parent. And then things like Snapshot and this "Twister", if i can figure out how it works. (I have not mastered Twitter so this doesn't bode well.

Also, I found a site that illustrates a school district using Edmodo, and it seems pretty seamless. Check it out, we could also present a real world example of what could be done with Edmodo in this way even though we do not have access.

http://hmstwister.weebly.com/what-is-edmodo.html
