Every year around graduation time I always write a silly post about how she is probably the REAL reason I graduated high school. I confided in her that I wasn’t going to graduate… two weeks later I walked that stage. I always called her ‘THE REAL MVP’. Thank you Mrs. Rolfe for all of the lives you touched  and all of the lives you changed, especially mine. 

Genie could live, laugh, and love with the best; she was the best.  The Rowdies will always be incomplete without Genie, and Sharon, of course.  What makes today tolerable is my vision of Genie and Sharon having a “salad” on whatever deck Sharon’s already found in the great beyond.  Please send love, strength, and peace to Frank, Nathan Rolfe, Brigitte Smith, Cayden, Mason, Chrissy, and the rest of her beautiful family.  Love ya, girl. 

My heartbreaks for the Rolfe family. Ms. Genie Rolfe was a mother to a slew of us outcasts. She never met a stranger and she loved us all. I loved my drives down those dark twisting curves to get to her house and see her smile and laugh.

When I worked at HEB, I made sure that I always walked with her and talked to her, I named it my old lady escort service, and she would come in saying where’s my escort. We talked about everything, and she was a huge driving force of getting me through college. “Don’t give up, you’re going to make a hell of a band director.”

This is a tough one… 

My deepest condolences to your family. May you rest in peace Rolfe. 

   

You truly loved kids, and you touched so many lives. I can still see the bulletin board in room 417 where you had all of the pictures of your former students. It was covered, a testament to your character and influence on so many young lives. You will be missed by so many. Love you, Genie Rolfe! 

 

 When your best friend dies the pain is visceral. A part of your soul leaves with them- a huge part of your life leaves with them. We knew one another’s stories, secrets, fears and the most intimate pains and joys throughout our lives the way no one else did.  I know that we will both take good care of that knowledge because we talked about this over the past few years.  Our souls will know each other once again in whatever happens in the afterlife, just like they recognized each other in this life so many years ago.

 I grieve so for her loved ones; her husband, son and his family, her sister and all of her extended family and huge network of friends. But I know she is still with us in the breezes that will blow, her beloved mountain laurel that will bloom in the spring, in the sunrises and waves of the Gulf that are always constant and gave her such joy.

Thank you, my sister in life, for all the moments, days, weeks and years. I know you’ll still be finishing my sentences, like we always did for each other, and that in the end became kind of a great tool, didn’t it, my friend? What a ride it has been! Even now, with my heart in tatters, I find myself smiling at so many memories. I can hear your laugh and see your smiles. When we meet again we will have many more adventures! Until then, soar high in the heavens my dear, dear girl! I love you.

When I thought I wasn’t going to be able too pass the math exam in order too graduate Ms.Rolfe was right there congratulating me with open arms when I did !

I’m sad too hear you’ve gone home but blessed too have been taught and nurtured by such an amazing soul.
