The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner
Born to Run by Christopher McDougall
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
The Shipping News by Annie Proulx

I've always read widely and will read anything recommended to me. I loved The Poisonwood Bible because of its representation of families and how it made me think about my place in the world - how do you be a good person within social/political/familial structures that are unfair?
I studied The Sound and the Fury at University and it blew me away with the complexity of the language and how it is used. In particular Quentin's section in which he considers the nature of time is a really incredible and difficult piece of literary writing.
Born to Run is such a great book for people who like to run. Really engaging writing and I've given it to everyone I know who runs or is even thinking about running!
While the book and the author are both deeply problematic (especially in regard to gender) American Psycho was so important to my thinking about writing and reading. The representations of violence in the book are so interesting and so brutal.
I love any book that is about the sea or set near the sea and the Shipping News is my favourite of this genre. Such a great read and so moody and moving.
