Frozen planet

sweeping shots of ice flows and icy landscapes interspersed with sharp edits to melting ice both conveys how fascinating the " frozen planet" is, but delivering the underlying environmental message through visual means.

You get a sense of scale and size through effective use of orchestral music and short and concise yet detailed descriptions of events and species we will see in the upcoming documentary.

Knuckle

With no narration or music in the introduction, with only Micheal and James Quinn McDonough sparring serving as an opening, it not only establishes two of the main subjects of the documentary as well as alluding to the brutal and unforgiving nature of bareknuckle boxing. The sudden slience ad subsequent introduction to James's family and life outside of bare knuckle boxing not only shows the vast contrast between the two lifestyles but also humanises him and provides a sympathetic view of the whole family as a result.

The series of serial killer documentaries uses ominous music to give insight into the violent nature of the crimes and the dark events that influenced the killers murders. in Addition the visuals put an emphasis on the forensic nature of the program, using detective iconography and cutting up of photographs to show how investigations lead not only to their final capture but also how the documentary will analyse their history and upbringing to find the warning signs and pivotal moments that lead them becoming killers .

Through my research I have learned that the use of various motion graphics and how through their use, however minor or insignificant, can drastically improve the aesthetic of a scene while also conveying the intended mood through colour correction. in addition to this I have discovered that through the addition of key frames can help the edits run cohesively and make each transition appear more fluid, giving the project a clear and smooth flow to it. overall, I feel that my research has helped me massively in understanding how essential the use of motion graphics can be if you sit to create a professional piece of media.
