The perspective presented in Insensibility is of that from someone like Owen, if not himself; a writer reporting on the war from the battlefield itself.
This is displayed primarily through the pronouns used, with the only instance of the self-referrential "we" utilised in the context of marching in the warzone and subsequently choosing how to communicate it through writing.
There is an underlying element of awareness of the horrors of war in the perspective used which consistently shows empathy towards the dead soldiers as well as those marching towards it, and animosity towards the decision-makers forcing young men into that situation in the first place.

This poem holds a dark, morbid and condemning tone throughout.

Each stanza has this overall truth to it that makes it this horribly tragic tale about the battle field and the lives of soldier. The tone reflects this through use of language that portrays this numbness ("Dullness best solves the tease and doubt of shelling", "some cease feeling") of the way the soldier go about the war and the loss they experience.

In stanza 4, the tone shifts and focuses on the naivety of new hopeful soldiers joining the war.
