I think that the planet Venus does not mean anything in terms of being a symbol. All Summer in a Day was released in 1954. Back then it was still widely believed that it rained on Venus, and that the environment of Venus would very closely match the environment that is told to us in the story. The driver-less cars represent how cutting edge technology can negatively effect us. What was seen as a tool to trivialize a task and to possibly make driving less dangerous has negatively affected the population. It is when we apply technology like this to every task in our lives that we become weak. The community as a whole in "The Pedestrian", except for a couple outcasts such as the protagonist, have forgotten what it means to be human. Humans are supposed to work hard to get past obstacles, but instead the citizens were lazy and to me, the driver-less cars represent this.
