At Renner we do not have the room or time for our classes to dress out. We recommend they wear appropriate PE attire when they come to PE. They do not have to purchase a certain attire.

Students are given a grade prior to the week starting. It is their responsibility to keep it. Points are deducted, -5 for not having proper footwear or clothing, -10 for no participation. If they do both in one day then that is -15 for the day - Shepton

Otto MS - Our pre-athletics/pe classes have the option to request a locker to change out. Clothes have to abide by dress code policy, but can be any color. They must be in proper footwear everyday, or they lose 5 points/day. For the most part the only students who request lockers and to change out are a couple of our pre-athletics kids.

Wilson- our students are not required to dress out. We dont have enough lockers. Also, our classes aren't always set up in a way the locker room and gym can be monitored at the same time. We also have classes that are taught by 2 males or 2 females. However, we always tell our students they can bring athletic clothes and we'll allow them change in the fine arts restroom. Closed toe shoes are required for PE.

At Frankford, we have been consistent with two different expectations for the two different curriculums with regard to dressing out in PE. For 6th grade pre-athletics, it is mandatory for students to dress out in Frankford issued attire. At Murphy MS, we require all students in PE to dress out. We have the appropriate amount of lockers and give all students ample time to acquire clothing that is deemed suitable for PE class. We offer the ability to purchase PE-specific clothing at multiple intervals in the first month of school. However, we also allow students to wear clothing purchased outside of school. We require a grey shirt and navy/black shorts/pants. We understand that certain students may not be able to acquire these specific colors, so we work with students on an individual basis to assist them in compliance.

They usually walk around the volleyball boundary line or basketball sideline and baseline. When they hear the scoreboard horn go off that tells them to start jogging or running at a consistent pace. If it is a new game or the first day of playing that game we use a Q&A to get them to think outside of PE walls. For grading, we have a participation grade and a dress-out grade. Students are made aware of the grading process at the beginning of the school year, as well as, given reminders on a weekly basis. Students come down to the gym and they have the 3 minute passing period along with 4 minutes after tardy bell to get dressed and in the gym. Any student that is dressed before the total 7 minutes that they are given go into the gym and have permission to walk laps and talk with friends. It would be beneficial for all schools to be on a cohesive curriculum that is not catch. Catch is not very time efficient when trying to plan, so having a written curriculum would be beneficial. As far as dressing out being a requirement, we logistically can not require all of our PE students to dress out, due to supervision conflicts, locker room space, and having locker rooms separate from the gym. Our PE/Pre-athletics schedules and school schedule does not align in a way that would allow us to require dressing out. Also having a district PE syllabus outline/guideline that we can all use and tailor to our schools.

At Plano West we have a warm up walk around the entire perimeter of the gym for approximately 15-20 minutes, as well as lunge walk, karaoke, butt kicks, shuffles.

We at Haggard agree with some of the other schools.... one size does not necessarily fit all. However, we think that some basic standards can be agreed upon for all campuses. These may include safe shoes, bringing a water bottle, and clothing that follows dress code standards.

Each school and level of school is different. Depending on several factors, some schools may have the ability to dress out and some may not in a traditional way. As far as expectations in the classroom, I do feel some form of communication with students leading into the week about what is going to be presented is helpful for both the teachers and students. We use SportsYou which allows the student and teachers to communicate and share what we are doing online in a safe way.

Participation is observed through their effort in the day's activity. Health participation is based through the google classroom assignments given in class. Dressing out is graded on whether they changed their top, their bottom, and have appropriate shoes. Both participation grades are daily grades, while dressing out is a major grade. Failure to complete any of these three result in 5 points off.

Students are dismissed 6 minutes before the bell rings to change back into their school clothes. Students bring their PE clothes with them each day, they do not stay in PE lockers after class is over. Upon changing back into their school clothes, students return to their attendance lines and wait for the bell to dismiss class.

All students are required to use the locker room to change clothes. The lockers are used on a first come, first serve bases. We set 5 minutes on the gym clock, within that time all students need to change into their PE clothes and be seated in there assigned seat before the buzzer goes off. Coaches will do a walk thru to get everyone out on time.

We base grades on dressing out and participation. On occasion, we give them a test.

Obviously every school has different circumstances and challenges. But, dressing out should be an expectation throughout the district. It makes the students have some responsibility in bringing their clothes to school.

Some of our classes are combined PE/Pre-Athletics and they are larger. We have one group go in and get dressed first-while the other group sits in attendance lines and attendance is taken. the first group will have 3-4 minutes to be dressed and out and then the other group goes in. We utilize both gyms - PE- is in the small gym and pre-athletics is in the big gym.

We would like to see class sizes be smaller (25-30 max per teacher) and to establish a district based curriculum that coaches within the district have come up with. Every campus is different and will require different expectations on dressing out, especially if there is no supervision for the locker rooms.

We dress out here at Williams with only 2 coaches present in classes. We too have a shortage of lockers, so we encourage students who take their clothes home daily to allow those who keep their clothes here to have 1st priority at a locker. Students all enter the gym before the tardy bell and go to their attendance spot in their street clothes, we take attendance, then both male and female coaches go into their locker rooms to monitor those changing. All students go and stay in the locker room for 5 min then those that are not done trickle out! They again go to their attendance spots we make note of those not dressed and start class.

It depends on our classes. some of the classes go straight to get dressed. Other ones have to come take attendance before going in to dress out.

Students start with a 100 for the week. If not dressed on a particular day it's a 10 pt deduction. If not participating on a particular day it's a 10 pt deduction, so basically we have a 20 pt a day scale. That's their major grade. Fitness days are an additional grade for the day, 0-100 but counts as a daily grade.

We believe that there should be an expectation of certain unit, bare minimum of sports provided at the middle school level, because it exposes them to sports some may have never participated in before. This would encourage them and set a foundation for high school PE, and intramural sports in college. We also believe students should dress appropriately for physical activity. This allows them to learn basic hygiene practices, responsibility of their belongings, and how to dress when working out.

we dismiss at the same time. Some groups stay to play a little longer and some help with putting up equipment. The students get dressed then come back to the gym to be dismissed by the bell.

Dressing out should be mandatory for reasons stated previously. It is very important for district cohesiveness because without it, it looks like we are in disarray, have instability, and may cause conflict.

We believe the kids need to change clothes for PE. Bad hygiene and class disruptions because someone smells or over sprays perfume / cologne is not beneficial for the other classes.

Lower class sizes would be nice. Or maybe another PE teacher in the area to help with the locker rooms or gyms.

We only require Athletics and Pre-Athletics to dress out. Our PE kids don’t dress out unless they want to, we give them that option.

We take off 5 points for 6th graders and 10 points off for the 7th and 8th graders per day if they do not have the correct shoes on or are not participating in the days activities and stretches.

We use FitnessGram as an assessment. We take their numbers every other week for the pacer test and up their curl ups and push ups every time they all hit the number for that week.

The students come into the Gym and sit in their roll call spots so we can take attendance. After attendance we have them put their bags in the weight room and go back to roll call. We then give them about 10 minutes to do their own heart rate increase activity and then they return back to roll call. We then go into stretches including curl ups and push ups and when we are finished we move on to the activity for the day. Tuesday’s and Thursday’s are cardio days and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are the game days and health lessons.

We agree that all schools are different and can’t require all PE kids to dress out. What we would like to see comes from the elementary level. We would like for the elementary kids to have learned different calisthenics ( butt kicks, karaoke, high knees, etc.) before they get to middle school. We feel that they are far behind when it comes to learning how to warm up and get ready for activities.

McMillen Grading is start 9 weeks with 100. If students choose not to participate it is their grade and it drops.

We think it would be beneficial to have a consistent grading expectation. We also understand that each school is different, has different cultures, and different staffing. With this being said to keep consistent, it would help to have smaller classes so the school with less PE teachers can manage the locker room and the gym.

Having enough teachers to watch locker room and kids would be helpful. While cohesiveness is important and would like to see it, every campus is different. So a broad set of rules that could be tailored to that school we think would be the best.

Cohesion with grading procedures and assessments for each Cluster. Requiring PE students to get dressed is too complicated when each camps is so different.
