Hi, my name is Corey McCrow and as I am writing this my dog is giving me "that" look...we all know what that "look" means. It's either he wants attention or he wants attention and if you are an animal lover you know there is only one way out. I guess in a way, that encompasses who I am; an individual willing to do everything in their power to provide for others no matter the circumstances (okay now that the assessors have fallen asleep marking their 40th padlet, let's find out who I really am).

I grew up in Perth where I would fall in love with AFL (now...now...Queenslanders, I swear it is a contact sport) and continue playing it from when I could pick up a ball to when I could pick up a decent sized beer. I advanced through club football at the age of 14 and joined the Darling Downs AFLteam which became the highlight of my football career (I can't say I made it to Buddy Franklin's $10m contract but I gave it a red hot go). During this time I also involved myself with squad swimming and became devoted to looking at a black line for hours on end, only to shave off a couple milliseconds here and there. I finally made it to the state and national level for the 100m Butterfly which was my favourite event by far (I love to challenge myself). After I left highschool I made the decision to dedicate myself to a life of pursuing exercise and that is where I am today; a strength and conditioning coach that runs their own business and a soon to be Accredited Exercise Physiologist. I have one more semester left but the experience I have gained in the last four years is immeasurable and I hope I can influence your journey the same way others have influenced mine.

Strength and Conditioning: An Insight to Athletic Development
During my time as a S&C coach I have been fortunate enough to have been exposed to multiple settings, sports, and coaching disciplines. My passion to pursue S&C developed over time during my 3rd year healthy population practicum at the Wilston Grange Gorillas AFC where I became enthralled by the different coaching styles that surround athletic development. After growing a professional relationship with my supervisor and mentor (Jonathon Danaher), I was offered a role as assistance S&C coach. I believe a S&C coach is a very undervalued position at any club, however it is a role that has the greatest rate of return on athletic performance. Taking this coaching opportunity grew my confidence and made me appreciate the precision and attention to detail that goes into programming for this population. At this current time I run my own S&C practice at my home studio where I train a number of athletes ranging from: Powerlifters, hockey players, and strongman athletes. This experience alone has taught me the intricacies of running a small business and how to satisfy consumers.

The skills I can provide mentoring and opportunities on are:
- Breaking into the S&C industry, including on a professional and paid level
- Networking (from industry leaders to individuals entering the S&C world)
- Programming principles and design ( periodisation, types of program designs, preparing AFL players, how to structure a planned deload, powerlifters verse weightlifters verse strongman, how to measure program success)
- Small business principles (registering a business name and ABN, reporting payments, buying equipment on a budget, marketing to a target audience)
- Work experience at McCrow Strength and Power
- How to perform an accurate Needs Analysis for athletes
- Resources for learning (coaching manuals, podcasts, influential authors, published articles)
- Musculoskeletal Prehab

Clinical Exercise Physiology: My Invaluable Clinical Experience

From the patients, clients, teachers, colleagues and everyone in between, my experience in this degree has forever shaped my outlook on life tremendously. After completing my first clinical practicum at the Ipswich Heart Health Service I realised that chronic conditions are a very serious epidemic in today's society. Having the opportunity for a real world experience made me appreciate the need their is for AEP’s and the important role they have in facilitating improvements in education, health and wellness, quality of life, and rehabilitation. More importantly, I was able to build upon a foundation of interpersonal and clinical skills while obtaining a greater insight into Queensland health's cardiac and lung rehabilitation program. On a final note, I suggest every third year to throw themselves in the QUT Health Clinics when presented with the opportunity. It is a delightful experience that I jumped at and it is ran by a panel of expert industry leaders, hence why I have chosen the clinic to be my last practicuum in September.

The skills I can provide mentoring and opportunities on are:

-Assessing vital measurements and their safe zones for exercise commencement

- Building rapport and professional relationships in the work environment

- Exercise principles and programming for cardiac and lung rehabilitation, including and not limited to: exercise progressions and regressions, attending to comorbidities, and measuring exercise intensity

- Cardiac and lung pathophysiology

- How to develop communication skills suited to the needs of your patient

- Referral letter writing and reviewing

- How to succinct patient information

- Performing and reviewing cardiac and lung specific exercise assessments
- Performing initial assessments

- Networking with other allied health professionals

- Resource material (scholar articles, systemic reviews, podcasts)
- Work experience at the QUT Health Clinics
