Some people argue that contraceptives are essential to stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

In Britain today, many people do have sex before marriage, sometimes with a number of different partners, and there is widespread acceptance of the use of contraception.

Many people think it is responsible to use contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancies, particularly if the child would be born into an environment where it could not be properly cared for.

Some people also acknowledge concerns about global overpopulation; they believe families should not have too many children because there is a limit to how many people the world can support.

The Catholic Church does not accept STDs as a valid argument for using contraception. They argue that if sex is preserved for marriage and if there is no sex with another person either before or during marriage, there is little chance of either the husband or wife contracting an STD. Therefore, there is no need to use contraception.

Also... Some people think that certain types of contraception should not be used because the egg may already be fertilised and therefore conception has already taken place. For example, the morning after pill prevents the egg from developing, which some people see as causing an abortion. Those who believe in the protection of human life from the moment of conception are opposed to these methods.
