My school was over 90% white students and we were given a lot of freedoms in our intellectual growth but not our social growth. There was a heavy influence on discipline and if you were labeled as the "bad kid" then you were the social outcast in school. This just forced us all the become better students than children. For our school, 3rd-6th grade had the same Spanish teacher so there was a definite strain on resources as far as languages other than English. Our Spanish teacher had to balance teaching kids across grade levels and at different skill levels in the language. We only had Spanish once or twice a week for around 30 minutes so our exposure to the language was not as extensive as it could have been. I have taken Spanish classes from third grade to 11th grade but I feel like I am far from proficient in the language. I would like to get better and be able to hold coherent conversations in Spanish one day.

I never really thought about space and justice as a child. I went to a majority white private school that did not talk about black history in anyway. Looking back on my time there and my hometown in general, it is very apparent to me that there are clear racial divides in spaces and I will be sure to research and educate myself on the history of the land.

I think that the most important thing a teacher or someone who works with kids can do when working with a kids with trauma is to make sure that they don't put them down or belittle them because of it. Helping children understand that you are not there to hurt them, but rather you want to help them overcome their trauma an learn how to deal with it.

The kind of person that I want to be around children is someone that listens and views the children has people that are on my level and not people beneath me. I want to be someone that the children feel safe and secure around. I want to be able to teach the children I work with how to treat everyone with kindness and how to be considerate of everyone.
