I see them as difference in perspective, versus difference in interest. A lot of conflicts in their most basic sense are a struggle for resources to survive such as territory and resources, but once heritage and history is established, concepts like religion, tradition, and colonization can create specific groups whose perspective is that of a desire to eliminate another group or defend against it. I don't know if I like the term "greed" because often the struggle is necessitated by the people involved's lives and needs, and the term "grievance" isn't always the case because they aren't always long-standing grudges.

I would even categorize a necessity as identification with a group.
