However, before its release, musical artists Imagine Dragons and J.I.D. created a song detailing the experiences of one of the show's main characters--Powder.

There are two speakers in this song, Powder and her alter Jinx. Powder is a skinny, blue-haired, twelve-year-old with an eye for explosives. Due to her turbulent life and a history of abandonment, she desperately wants to be loved and accepted by everyone. In contrast, Jinx is a long-haired, seventeen-year-old, manic sociopath who wants to bring the world down with her. Throughout the song, both voices are heard, but Jinx's voice starts to take over as the song progresses--foreshadowing what will happen in Arcane. The occasion of the song is Powder's perception and experiences in life that will transform her into a darker, more aware Jinx.

Both girls have distinct voices, and they talk to multiple audiences. Powder speaks to her sister, Vi, and Vi's friends, begging them to let her into their lives. She argues that if they don't let her in, she will turn into the psychotic Jinx. On the other hand, Jinx is talking to the people that want to "fix" her, who do not accept Jinx as she is. She directs the song's message towards Vi, Sevika, Caitlyn, Ekko, Vandor, Mylo, Claggor, Piltover enforcers, and others who dare stand in her way, warning them that a reckoning is coming.

Just as there are two speakers, there are two purposes in the song. Powder tries to convince someone to care about her so she doesn't become Jinx. In contrast, Jinx is trying to manipulate Powder into accepting Jinx. Jinx is sending a message to her enemies, telling them to beware. The title of the song, "Enemy," is also nuanced. Powder feels she has enemies and wishes she could be different; however, Jinx accepts that everyone is against her and gleefully embraces it.

The subject of the song is abandonment, self-loathing, and the rejection of the opinions of others.

The lyrical tone of the piece is somber and brooding, and it has a touch of dark freedom. The tone of the video starts with the world through a child's eyes--happy and carefree.
