One close call in chapter 6 was when the when the solider asks the mom and dad if they where hiding any jews. They said no. And to prove it the showed the soliders pictures of the family. The lied and said Ellen was Annimaries sister. When the germen soldiers got out of the house, the all let a sigh of relief. They started to laugh about it after.

One close call in chapter 6 was, when Kirsti almost revealed that Ellen to a soldier is a jew when they were on their way to Uncle Henrik's house. But, Kirsti doesn't reveal it and changes the subject to how she's going to visit her uncle and her black shoes then the soldier chuckled and moved on to somewhere else.

The close calls in chapter 6 are, first Annemarie and Ellen almost got caught at school by the German soldiers. Second, how the german soldiers asked them where they were going when they were going to there New Year. Those are the close calls I found in the book.

A close call that haped in chapter 6 in the book "Number The Stars" is when Annemarie's sister Kirsti all most said "This is our friend Ellen and it is her new year!' to the solder. But she did not. Instead little Kirsti said "I'm going to visit my Uncle Henrik."

Ellens New Year was a Jewish New Year. Thank goodness she said that she was wearing her new shinny, black shoes instead.

A close call in chapter 6 was when Kirsti said to the soldier "Guess what!" and Annemarie and her mother thought that Kirsti was gonna say that Ellen was their friend and that it was her New Year. Luckily, Kirsti just told the soldier that she was going to her uncles and that she was wearing her new black shiny shoes. The soldier asked if they were going to Annemarie's uncles house for the New Year even though it was October because, Jew's New Year is in october. If they were going to Henrik's house for the New year then that would tell the soldier that they were Jews. That was a big close call in chapter 6 of Number the Stars.

One way the author creates a close call is when Kirsti interrupts the soldier and the mom when he asks about the new year for the jews and they thought that Kirsti was gonna say

''this is our friend Ellen and it's her new year''and then maybe if she did say that they would know that she is a jew then they would of taken her to the Consitration camps then she would of maybe died. but Kirsti told the soldier that ''she was going to see her uncle Henrick''in her brand new shiny black shoes.

A close call in this chapter was when the German soldiers came and were checking the car with Ellen in it.But the family covered up that they had Ellen, the jew in their car. If the soldiers found out that a jew was in their car they probably would of done something bad to Ellen because she is a jew and the soldiers probably would of done something to Annemaries's family because they helped a jew. Another way the author created suspense was when Annemarie's little sister Kristie inturrupted her mom and everyone though Kristie was going to say that is was Ellen's New Year. But instead Kristie said she was going to her uncle's house with her new, shiny, black shoes. these are 2 ways the author crated suspense.
