The HOS does the reference checks on applicants / potential new hires. In relation to the readings (Figure 1.1), the HOS, in a less explicit way, also take the temperature of external and internal demographic influences that determines the culture and tone of the school, and in a more explicit way, determines any revision to school rules, codes, and mission.

Extensive 6-interview plus sample lesson process an applicant goes through after initial screening.

The school does not have a limit or cap on absences, instead it is on one's honor. The system works. I have yet to see anyone abuse the system. Instead of outside subs, if someone is absent, someone else in the department covers for you and is paid per class period covered.
