Skills NI-18-19 October 2017 - Performing Arts Students will be working to support the IT dept in providing marketing support for their stand at the exhibition (Newry)

The Nightshift before Christmas 20/11/17-04/12/17- Perf arts students to be give at least 1 full day in a professional rehearsal room working with all departments in preparation for the professional production in              the 'Theatre at the Mill, in Newtownabbey. This project is funded by Belfast City Council and the Arts Council of NI.The LPC will take students from both cohorts to and from rehearsal room in Belfast. 4 students will         be selected to perform in the public performances and will be roles to play in the final production. There are 4 matinees planned for the run, each taking place at 3pm. It is anticipated that the SRC students                     will perform in these shows. The LPC will take and collect the students to and from the performances. (Newry & Armagh)

 

This worked really well with the Level 2 and will try out on level 3 just after Christmas.  Students did enjoy that this was a real business and liked researching the business before designing the spreadsheet

Jonathan Davis, from Marketing, met with the USM students to show them how data analytics were used within social media for the college sites and the students found this very interesting as will be applying this knowledge to their own sites.

 

Mr Alan Matthews and Mr Adam McCollum from Applied Systems, Belfast visited Year Two Foundation Degree Computing students at SRC's Portadown and Newry Campuses in November to launch a competition for placement opportunities.

The company was involved in the design of an Assignment for the Visual Programming module of the course. Students had to design and write code to produce a C# application to generate car insurance quotations, based on a set of constraints.  The students competed for the prize of an iPad for the best solution. Applied Systems also offered placement positions to the 8 students who produced the most impressive solutions.

Inter college UK Games Championship Pilot. 

Applied Systems has been creating technological solutions for the Insurance Industry since 1983. The company has been involved in the design of an Assignment for the Visual Programming module of the Foundation Degree Computing course. Students had to design and write code to produce a C# application that will generate car insurance quotations, based on a set of constraints. The students were competing for the prize of an iPad for the best solution. Applied Systems have also offered placement positions to students who produce the most impressive solutions. They will also be involved in the design of an assignment for the Object Oriented Programming unit.

Victoria Burden has also a contact in First Derivatives who is going to come and talk to students.
Amy Adair, a former student and current QUB student is going to come in and talk to student about what happens after completing the level 3 course.
