I challenged myself to start the day 3 times a week with pushups. For the second week in a row I only managed 2 out of 3, but my abilities are still steadily improving. I actually managed 26 this morning (28/2/22). I think there's still a real chance I could hit 100 within the duration of the accelerator program.
Pete N

After a good start (the day before the energy challenge in fact) I proceeded to not go to the gym for nearly two weeks... so not the best track record.

Turns out I'm not a massive morning person - so I've decided it makes more sense to create a schedule that I can adhere to.

I went to the gym on Sunday and I was basically the only one there, so I spoke to the staff and it turns out I'll have it nearly all to myself if I go Wednesday morning, Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.

So that's the schedule I'll strive to keep :)

Most of my adult life I have been relatively inactive (desk worker), even though I have spurts of doing active struff (eg a couple of marathons). For a year before (and during) Covid I started running 5km every other day; rain or shine, and was going pretty well. Then last summer I separated and moved to new home that didn't have such easy access to the racecourse/park that was exactly 5k loop from my previous home. I was lazy and did nothing much until prompted by this program.
Inspired by the energy challenge I realised this was my chance to start getting active again, so I signed up with my local pool and have swam every single day (that I am at home) ever since. Aiming for 30 mins/30 lengths but minimum 20 lengths/20 mins when short of time.
I go first thing in the morning, aiming for when the pool opens (6am) but so far get there about 06:10. Tried walking there too once (about 15 mins each way). I am not a good swimmer; I dont sink but I never know how to breath properly so I am doing a mixture of breast stroke and backstroke. I am going every day to ensure it becomes a habit; because if it is optional, it will be too easy to stay in bed.
It's still tough to get out of bed and even yesterday (sunny warm day) I had to scrape the ice off the car. But I am now beginning to feel strength growing in my arms/chest and hoping the leg exercise will strengthen my knees too (they have developed pain if I start jogging at all).
Next Sunday I have a long-booked cycle ride, I think it is 100k, but there may be an 80k option (avoiding the hill climbs). I prefer distance over height so will see how far I get on my heavy unsuitable bike (I own no cycle clothing or cycle shoes for example).
So in conclusion, I am grateful for this challenge, it has got me out of the house and exercising again - I am sure it is helping my mental health wellbeing too.
Go Duracell bunnies!
(mark garnett)

The past year saw me put my life on hold. Never Again!
Would it surprise you if I said my score on the "Developing Our Energy Doc" came out at a 0! Unfortunately, i've become very good at wearing masks to hide how i'm doing. this is something i've tried and learnt to manage over many years. but, that said I'm ok. the challenges helped to put a prospective on things, and sometimes you need a little outside prospective. So, back in the Gym for the first time in about 7 months and feeling better for it. Paul
