An explanation of what the character thinks and/or feels at any given time based on what is happening ~

"The Radley Place fascinated Dill. In spite of our warnings and explanations it drew him as the moon draws water, but drew him no nearer than the light pole on the corner, a safe distance from the Radley gate. There he would stand, his arm around the fat pole, staring and wondering." (10).

In this quote, readers can clearly highlight how Dill has a curiosity of the Radley Place, and it intensely draws him in. His stubbornness also seems to kick in, even with Scout warning Dill multiple times to stay away from the Radley place.

Even with many warnings and pleas, Dill still goes near the Radley Place, looking around. From what I see from the quote, I realize that when Dill has a sense of fascination, no one is able to stop him from wandering around or going near it. His fascination mixed with some stubbornness could put him at risk, even if it means to explore something he is wondering about. Even with warnings and pleas from others, he still would not stop himself from alleviating his dying curiosity.

An action important to who this character is (explain the action and what is says about the character)

While we as readers do not know much about Dill yet from how early it is in the story, readers can already see his personality shine through his actions. He is an adventurous, humorous, and diverse character with potential.

Some of the things he has done so far are:
“’I’m Charles Baker Harris, I can read’” (pg. 7). Just from meeting him, Dill goes on to mention his young age, his accomplishments, and his unique size for his age.. He mentions to the kids how people call him Dill, mentioning he is from Median, Mississippi, and he had seen "Dracula". From this information, it is evident that Dill is a diverse character, possessing many unique traits and quirks of his own.

'"You're scared' Dill said, the first day. 'Ain't scared, just respectful,' Jem said. The next day Dill said, 'You're too scared to even put your big toe in the front yard.'" (pg. 16)
This is when Dill dared Jem to go knock on the Radley's door. Readers see more of a mischievous, silly side of Dill. He influences Jem to go through with the dare and we see a friendship growing between the main characters and Dill. A humorous Dill is introduced as he makes a joke about Jem, while still influencing him to do the dare. This showcases more of his funny and clever side for readers to see.

"Thus we came to know Dill as a pocket Merlin, whose head teemed with eccentric plans, strange longings, and quaint fancies." (pg. 9)
With this quote, readers gain a lot more insight into Dill's personality. While having a petite build, his brain and his knowledge were far from that, as he told stories of vast lands, and possesses various amounts of hopes and dreams. He is both fun and mischievous, and radiates an energy that is bright, an energy that is good to be around, but is also pleasant.

I, myself, see Dill as duck fluff. The mention of duck fluff is introduced in the beginning of the story, "Dill was a curiosity. He wore blue linen shorts that buttoned to his shirt, his hair was snow white and stuck to his head like duckfluff..." (9). His hair is white, as some duck fluff is also a shade of white.

The color white is often is associated with innocence and purity, which also describes Dill within a sense. Dill spends every summer in Maycomb, thus meaning that he does not know specifically the in and outs of the town, and does not what truly goes on behind the scenes regarding the community and the residents.

He is pure and naive, and has a sense of happiness regarding things that he likes. "As he told us the old tale his blue eyes would lighten and darken; his laugh was sudden and happy..." (9).

We see this naiveness continue when the Radley Place is mentioned. The Radley Place fasincates Dill, and even when Jem and Scout warn him about it, he still goes near the Radley Place. He is seen to be "...no nearer than the light-pole on the corner, a safe distance from the Radley gate. There he would stand, his arm around the fat pole, staring and wondering." (10).

“‘I’m Charles Baker Harris,’ he said. ‘I can read.’ ‘So what?’ I said. ‘I just thought you’d know I like to read. You got anything needs readin’, I can do it.” (pg. 8)

This is the first introduction of Dill in the story. While most kids would introduce themselves and say how old they are or start small talk with their peers, Dill’s first words to his new comrades was showcasing his skills in reading. This shows readers that Dill is different, and that he stands out compared to other kids. He seems to be quite quirky and small, yet his brain holds a lot of stories and knowledge.
