Source: 'The Second Rolle of the Kynges Galliasses'. 1546. A picture of a ship called the swallowe.
Analysis: This ship pictured was very advanced technologically, as it used modern techniques of firing cannons rather than hand to hand combat. this leads to the conclusion that the Spanish armada defeat was by skill, as this particular ship had the skill to win in battle.

This can be a part of the luck factor seen happening. This was a source from a letter written by the captain of a fleet of ships named Sir Thomas Fenner

This could be an example of luck or a bad set up for the Spanish.

Source: A picture from a book published shortly after queen Elizabeth I died.
Analysis: This document, being pro-English, shows that the Spanish armada didn't have the numbers to keep up with the British fleet, leading to the conclusion that the British fleet defeated the Spanish not by strength or luck, but by size. The single Spanish ship is being pummeled in the middle.

She did this without knowing the exact timing of the arrival of the Spanish, and it was just in time. This makes the defeat of the Spanish armada seem lucky.

Source: Extract from a letter from the Privy Council to Sir Owen Hopton, Lieutenant of the Tower of London, 26 July 1588.
Analysis: In this document, Sir Owen Hopton, who claims to be a master shipbuilder, tells of a discrepancy in the Spanish armada. The spanish were apparently low on supplies due to debt, which would lead to the idea that the defeat of the armada was lucky for the english because the spanish messed up.
