She was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1909 and in her early childhood was sent to a foster family to get away from WW1. She bonded with her foster family and ended up getting adopted by them.
She gets hired as Otto Frank's secretary and became good friends with his family. Then she got married to Jan Gies. When world war 2 came, she helped hide Anne's family, and when the Franks got captured she and her Jan were not. Later on she found Anne's  diary and gave it to Otto, the only Frank survivor. He had it published. Miep and Jan have a kid, Paul.
