Not only does it sound a bit dated, but also its prominent topic of love and relationships are really generic. But the enjoyment I get out of it is simply from each track's catchiness and overall memorability, and that's why I love it. The thing about it is that it's good, but not Hikaru good. Like, it isn't even on par with any of her stuff from the 2000s, the decade where she was at her PRIME, the decade where she was at the top of her GAME, the decade where she was ALL THE RAGE in the country, the decade in which she was famously the greatest-selling Japanese artist of, with bangers like the Kingdom Hearts songs. This just ain't the Hikaru sound I rock with, or at least the sound I associate with her. It does have its highlights, though. Like, if you get past the datedness, "Automatic" and "Time Will Tell" break the damn record for two of the catchiest choruses I've ever heard in my entire life, "Movin' on Without You" is pretty solid, and the title track, which would've been a perfect ending song, BUT INSTEAD IT'S THE SIXTH SONG, be hittin' you with that Mariah/Whitney ballad vibe, but get past that and it might actually be pretty decent. Some of you might be questioning my positive opinion on this album all because of the, at this point, clear flaws I've been mentioning, merely having to do with the datedness and genericness but I GOTTA give hella respect to Japan's greatest-selling album. I'm still on that Opiate/Undertow/Ænima pack that I started my Tool journey with, and I don't think I'll ever quit. The records that I'll always come back to when I wanna bump Tool are the first three, 'cause they're so GODDAMN GOOD!!!!! When I started listening to Tool last month, with Opiate, I thought that if I were to make a tier list, that would be a PHOKING S!! STRAIGHT UP S!! Almost every track had me....HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE. Bro, the screams in "Hush" and "Jerk-Off" made me blow up my vocal cords along with MJK.      But not as much as Slipknot's debut. Also, lyrically, "Jerk-Off" I related to in terms of the issues I have with the people in middle school, and Gen Z, and this, that, and the third. Every track is just so fuckin' great. All except the hidden song that played after the title track. Obviously, it immediately turned me off. So now it's just a solid A. But still, I just DO NOT UNDERSTAND why IRRESISTIBLY CATCHY early cuts like fuckin' "Part of Me" and "Hush" aren't two of Tool's most popular songs! I just don't get it! These diehard Tool fans. Mm-mm. But since I put it in A, I kinda do agree with them a bit. It is pretty rough around the edges.

When these diehard Tool fans talk about records like Opiate and Undertow, they always be like "oH, iT's NoT tHe ToOl ThAt We'Ve CoMe To KnOw AnD lOvE. tHiS iS, lIkE, pRe-TOOL-tOoL. iT's No LaTeRaLuS. iT's No 10,000 DaYs. ThEy HaVeN't FuLlY fOrMeD tHaT sIgNaTuRe ExPeRiMeNtAl, MiNd-BlOwInG, fUlLy-ReAlIzEd SoUnD yEt." Bro. THEY HAVE!!! THEY'RE JUST GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!!! Undertow fuckin' slaps. You know what it is. I listened to both Undertow and Opiate on the weekend I started listening to Tool. And since that day, I've been coming back to this classic. During that week, almost half the shit, plus a remastered Opiate-era live show I watched with like, 2M views being the first thing I see, is on the 'Listen again' shelf of the main page of my YouTube account on the TV. The entire album has since been one of the material at the top of the LONGER shelf in the full 'Music' page. YOU ARE NOT FU--BROOOOOOO!!!!! Not a single song floppin'. EVERY TRACK IS PEAK Tool!!! Do I really needa be gushin' about how fuckin' superb of a debut Undertow is? But the thing is, it'll only hit at, like, 7 or 8 PM. Like, during the early hours of nighttime. One time, after coming back home from yet another exhausting day of school, I listened to the album again as early as 4 or 5, and it was too much to handle, dawg! 😂 I really never needed to subject myself to a banger this early! But, yeah, I put Undertow on the greatest 90's albums. It's the greatest album of 1993. What more can I even say?

Ænima, these diehard Tool fans will always consider to be the band's first 'S'. And...I just feel like you people are heavily yawning and ready to catch some Zs over Undertow.  WAKE YO ASS UP!!!! Anyway, when I first listened to Ænima, I had the HIGHEST of expectations for it, considering the last legendary SENSATION I witnessed. Plus, a lot of people have been saying it slaps. So I decided to give it a listen. "Stinkfist" has the ability to sound a bit commercial and still be an amazing hit. It's a renowned banger, but also, for some reason, it's so goddamn catchy. Never left my head, bro. Nice and strong start to a fuckin TRIP of a record. And right from the 8-minute "Eulogy", you KNOW you're in for an unforgettable experience. "H." ("I DON'T MIND" Come on!), "Forty Six & 2",....the seventh track, "jimmy", "Pushit", "Ænema", and, one of the GREATEST ENDING TRACKS....OF ALL TIME,.......MUTHA......FUCKIN'........PRYING OPEN MY THIRD EY--this shit is amazing. SO amazing bro. Undertow was great, AND THIS THING WAS EVEN BETTER!!!  Impeccable is Tool's innovation and ambitions within this record's innovatively exotic, industrial, out-of-this-FUCKIN'-world sound. But also, this just comes down to each song being amazing. Another thing that definitely made the album the royalty that it is are the segues and skits. The terrifying white noise-esque loop that fades in, and becomes louder and louder known as "Useful Idiot" got me HYPE for "Forty Six & 2"! "Message to Harry Manback" is a monologue out of an answering machine from some Italian dude spouting out death threats to someone for....kicking people out of their house.....over a catchy piano riff, all of which would eventually add to the lyrics of the following seventh track. "Intermission" is a hilarious old stage break-style organ ditty whose memorable melody is carried over to "jimmy", the next song. After that, is "Die Eier von Satan", which is where some dude demonstrates the recipe to hash sugar cookies in German, with no eggs, and makes a crowd go wild, all over one of the most POWERFUL industrial instrumentals ever. That's HELL'S recipe. "Cesaro Summability" opens up with some weird baby noises and then other shit, leading to one of the best Tool singles ("Ænema"). I think I've said enough about how amazing this shit is. One of the greatest metal albums of all time. If Lateralus didn't exist, it would've been the greatest Tool album.
