The Maid, by Nita Prose.  It’s fiction and a murder thriller but the central character is autistic and throughout there were some lovely inner thoughts, based on teaching sessions with her grandmother (who throughout tries to explain a world she simply does not understand).  Her honesty and inability to lie or perceive others’ motives, gets her in all sorts of scrapes, some funny, some poignant, but I came away certainly feeling it has improved my understanding of the world they see, as well as it being an enjoyable read.
