“Wake Me up When September Ends” by Green Day is a song that came out in 2005-ish, where people have linked it to certain events that happened during that month. The origins of the song was that it was written for Billie Joe’s late father, but it has also grown to hold several meanings. For example, the song has been linked with the attack on 9/11 as a relation to the title and line, “wake me up when September ends” which can mean being woken when war is resolved, and the line, “the innocent can never last,” can also be used as an anti-war slogan. Another event that is linked with the song is the event of Hurricane Katrina, that claimed a lot of innocent lives around the month of September.

I couldn’t think of one from when I was born so I used an older one, the song “ gimme shelter “ by The Rolling Stones talks about what was going on in the late 60s. The song opens with the lines “a storm is threatening my very life today, if I don’t get some shelter ooh yeah I’m gonna fade away.” The song later has lyrics like , “war children it’s just a shot away “ and has American gospel singer Mary Clayton sing, “ rape, murder, it’s just a shot away”. The Rolling Stones and Mary Clayton used this song to talk about the war ,rape and murder cases that were happening. When writing this song The charles Manson cases were happening and the band says they wrote it during the Vietnam war ,They needed “ shelter “ from this storm, mick jagger said the song was , “very much about the awareness that war is always present.”
